Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Operated by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the sanctuary offers programs for adults, children and families. Some Hightlights:

Family Seal Cruise and Outer Beach Hike
Dates offered: 8/29, 8/30, 9/2, 9/4
Cruise along the coast of Chatham looking for gray seals in the water and on sand bars. A naturalist will help to identify these animals, interpret their behavior, and provide activities to help children make observations.
Afterwards, you’ll get off the boat and explore South Beach, one of Cape Cod’s famous barrier beaches. Beachcomb for seashells and keep your eyes out for shorebirds living and foraging nearby.
Wear shoes that can get wet. Bring hat, sunscreen, drinking water.

Bird Walk
The early bird gets the worm and the early birder gets the best birds. The Sanctuary’s many habitats support a wide variety of birds from herons to hummingbirds, waders to warblers, and everything in between. Bring binoculars if you have them. No registration required. Binoculars recommended.

Provincetown:
WALK: TOUR OF THE TOWN 2 hr/3 mi
Provincetown's history via a walking tour co-sponsored by the NPS and Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum.

Tuesdays, 9AM, $5.

WALK: DUNE FOREST - 1½ hr/1 mi in soft sand
Walk the Province Lands dunes. Ponds, hardwood forest, and spectacular views.
Saturdays, 9:30AM, Beech Forest parking area, off Race Point Rd. Free.

HIKE: ART IN THE DUNES - 3 hr, 2½-3 mi in loose sand
On this long hike into the Province Lands dunes, view firsthand the quality of light, natural environment, and isolation that long attracted artists and writers to Provincetown. Meet an artist-in-residence at a dune shack.

Truro:
FAMILY PROGRAM: CAPE COD STORYTELLER PROJECT - ½ hour. Shawn O'Neill tells stories for the whole family, inspired by nature. A joint program of the Payomet Performing Arts Center and Highlands Center, Inc.
Meet at the Highlands Center, North Truro. (Route 6 to the Cape Cod (Highland) Light exit in Truro, turn onto Old Dewline Road. August 13, 27 11 AM. Call (508) 487-5440 for details.

Wellfleet:
CANOE TRIP: GULL POND - 2½ hr, 1-2 mi. $ Enjoy the early morning calm of a kettle pond, while exploring its diverse plant and animal life. BY RESERVATION ONLY. Call Province Lands Visitor Center at (508) 487-1256. Fridays, at 8 AM.

Eastham
CANOE LESSON - 1-1½ hr, 1 mi. $ Learn basic paddling techniques, and how to control a canoe. Meets basic experience required for our park-sponsored trips. BY RESERVATION ONLY. Meet at Salt Pond Visitor Center. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1PM.
